Aprille Byam Joins Smarty Pants

March 2, 2015

Youth and family research and consulting firm, Smarty Pants®, announced today the addition of veteran talent Aprille Byam to its growing quantitative research department. Byam joins the organization as Quant Guru, a role that includes designing innovative online studies, programming, analyzing data and managing the company’s Know-It-All panel of nearly 100,000 families. She also plays a key role in data-driven storytelling and the creation of client deliverables.

“Aprille is a real asset for our team,” says Smarty Pants Quant Savant, Dr. Michelle Poris. “She is the unique combination of data whiz and creative storyteller who is already having a tremendous impact on our business.”

Byam comes to Smarty Pants with over 15 years of experience in market research and product
marketing on both the corporate and agency sides. She began her career at Harris Interactive and then moved on The Sutherland Group, a technology and analytics company. Aprille transitioned to Eastman Kodak in 2002 where she quickly rose through the ranks as a product marketer, future experience manager and research manager.

Over her career Byam has worked with a wide range of clients and consumers, but her real forte is weaving multiple data sources into one coherent story. She has developed an innovative market research panel/community format – “embedding” with customers to understand their needs longitudinally. She blends her roles as data scientist and oral historian – working to gather the stories of an audience, then synthesizing and sharing them so that marketers can better connect with their targets.

Byam holds a BA in French from the University of Rochester and an MBA with a concentration in Marketing from the William E. Simon School of Business Administration. She is based in Rochester, NY, where she and her husband are heavily involved in rallying the arts and innovation community.
