Smarty Pants Market Research Consultancy Adds Dr. Kafele Khalfani As Dean Of Diversity

JOHNSON CITY, TN – Smarty Pants research and consulting firm announced that it has named Dr. Kafele J. Khalfani as its “Dean of Diversity.” In this new role, Khalfani leads the company on all issues related to diversity and inclusion—from talent acquisition and professional development, to expanding the company’s cultural resource library, to establishing diversity-related best practices in market research. Khalfani also co-leads Smarty Pants’ Inclusion, Diversity & Equity Academy (IDEA) designed to broaden cultural literacy and deepen consumer empathy among employees and clients.

background and great academic pedigree. He has been a diversity educator for decades, and he
understands young people and what’s on the horizon. His unique blend of intelligence, candor

Wynne Tyree and Radames Rodriguez.

Khalfani received his Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Syracuse University before earning a
Master of Arts in Advertising from Michigan State University and a Master of Fine Arts in
Screenwriting from Loyola Marymount University. He received his Doctor of Education at the
University of Southern California.

Khalfani’s marketing career began as an Account Executive at Ogilvy & Mather in New York where
his clients included Cotton Incorporated and The Hershey Company. He also worked on
pharmaceutical brands at Ogilvy Healthcare. Khalfani later served a similar role at Suissa Miller
Advertising where his clients included The Quaker Oats Company and Dole Food Company.

In 2001, Khalfani made a career move to pursue his lifelong passion for higher education. Over
the past two decades he has worked with the 18 to 24 demographic on college campuses—
namely, Loyola Marymount University; Marymount California University; University of California, Riverside; College of Staten Island, and University of California, San Diego. His positions have included directorships of residence life, student organizations, leadership development, student government, judicial affairs and community development. He remains the Dean of Student Affairs at UC San Diego.

Diversity education has been at the center of Khalfani’s life since his early years at Syracuse
University as a founding member of PEOPLE Together—a multicultural group of Peers Eliminating Oppression & Prejudice by Learning and Educating together. At College of Staten Island and Loyola Marymount University, Khalfani was tasked with pluralism and diversity programming. Additionally, Khalfani has served as a faculty and staff diversity trainer at UC Riverside, where he has also led the Making Excellence Inclusive program.

A native New Yorker, Kafele resides in San Diego where he serves as co-chair of the Board of
Directors of the city’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Center.
