Smarty Pants® Market Research Consultancy Adds David Hurlbut, Ph.D.

JOHNSON CITY, TN – Smarty Pants research and consulting firm announced today that it has added David “Dima” Hurlbut, Ph.D. to its growing talent roster. Dr. Hurlbut serves as a “Research Prodigy” who supports all phases of the research process – from conceptualization and design of projects, to fieldwork and analysis, to the creation of final deliverables. His contributions span Smarty Pants’ healthcare, toy and game, and retail clients.

In his former life as an academic, Dr. Hurlbut designed and executed award-winning research
projects on religion and culture in Africa. His published academic research has appeared in the
International Journal of African Historical Studies, Journal of Mormon History, and Religions.
Additionally, Dr. Hurlbut has served in a variety of editorial roles and regularly organized
conferences and workshops to promote interdisciplinary collaboration.

Dr. Hurlbut received both an M.A. and a Ph.D. in history from Boston University, where he was a
Title IV Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellow in Awka, Nigeria. Prior to Boston
University, he graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in history from Lewis and
Clark College in Portland, Oregon, where he also spent a year studying at the esteemed University
of Oxford.
