Czarmyne (pronounced Charmaine) joined Smarty Pants as a Research Prodigy in 2022. She brought with her a natural curiosity for people, strong academic training, a passion for diversity, and a wealth of project management experience.

As a Prodigy, Czarmyne supports all phases of the research process across diverse methods. She is equally as adept setting up an online community as she is analyzing quant data. Whether managing a difficult recruit or moderating or extracting meaning from data, Czarmyne consistently adds value. She is a gifted writer, thinker and doer.  ​

Czarmyne applies her talents and experience to key healthcare initiatives at Smarty Pants. One of her most fascinating projects to date has been an investigation into health disparities among Asian American consumers. The seminal work taps her passion for inclusion and equity, commitment to community health, and ability to manage complex research.​


​Following her undergraduate studies, Czarmyne was a Usability Testing and Instructional Design intern at SkillsCommons – an online library containing learning materials and program support materials for workforce development. She developed wireframes, populated resource pages, conducted usability screening, and audited and optimized the site’s navigational hierarchy and functionality.​

​Czarmyne officially began her professional career in the gaming industry. At the Southern California Card Room, she provided support to the Director of Gaming Operations and various management teams. Her role included collecting, aggregating and maintaining confidentiality of proprietary company and player data, as well as providing financial and asset security, and documenting operations for Department of Justice compliance. How’s that for high stakes?​

Leveraging her love of details and her administrative and legal experience, Czarmyne went on to work as a real estate closing specialist. She played a critical communications and documentation role at the nexus of home buyers, agents, loan officers, attorneys and compliance professionals. The role allowed her to to expand her skillset in managing complex projects for disparate stakeholders.​


Czarmyne is an honors graduate of California State University, Long Beach, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and was a member of Psi Chi, the International Honor Society of Psychology. ​

​As she obtained her degree, Czarmyne also served as a research assistant responsible for meta-analysis coding at Cal State’s Wax Lab – an interdisciplinary lab that investigates workplace diversity issues. Her role provided her with a lengthy list of experiences in academic research, including special populations, situation awareness, usability, accessibility, and the experience of marginalized communities as consumers and employees.​

Czarmyne is currently pursuing a master’s in Human Factors Psychology at California State University, Long Beach. The program centers around designing for humans and their interaction with products, systems, and technology.​


Born and raised in Southern California, Czarmyne resides in Long Beach. She loves to take advantage of LA-adjacent living by going to concerts, movie screenings, and checking out the hottest new dining spots.​
