Hannah Hutchinson

Insights Whiz

New York, New York

Hannah joined the Smarty Pants team in the spring of 2024. With an unrelenting curiosity about people, she is a natural researcher who loves to explore the inspiration behind people’s decisions. Her ability to conduct and analyze both quantitative and qualitative research enables her to deliver comprehensive insights that fuel informed decision-making.

In her role as an Insights Whiz, Hannah supports several of Smarty Pants’ key children’s toy, food & beverage, and media clients. She excels at identifying trends, preferences, and emerging patterns, and providing actionable recommendations for business growth. She has keen analytical skills and an impressive ability to craft compelling narratives that create consumer clarity and facilitate the seamless integration of findings into actionable strategies.

Hannah also has a passion for tackling issues of inequality – in a market research context and beyond.

Hannah was most recently a senior associate at Material+ in NYC where she played a pivotal qual-quant role in shaping market strategies for Fortune 500 companies spanning entertainment, healthcare and hospitality. This involved moderating focus groups and interviews, designing research protocols, developing activity guides and discussion guides, and collaborating with cross-functional teams (including operations, social analytics, and behavioral insights) to ensure a quality client experience.

Before making the move to market research, Hannah worked as an art coordinator at CBS. She coordinated logistics with vendors, created native integrations for brand partnerships, managed art department and proprietary set assets for “The Drew Barrymore Show.”

In past lives, Hannah has also been a documentary film maker, research assistant to an executive producer and showrunner, university teaching assistant, after-school art class teacher, and legal intern at a low-income law firm in Providence, Rhode Island.

Hannah graduated with honors from Bard College in 2019, where she double majored in Film Production and Historical Studies. The passion for storytelling and research that informed her studies has inspired her throughout her professional career.

In college, Hannah interned at an NGO in Berlin, Germany, where she researched strategies and crafted recommendations for digital precautions for human rights defenders in the Philippines.  She also took a gap year, during which time she served with AmeriCorps and discovered her love of working with children and organizations dedicated to social causes.

Though she loves traveling world, Hannah now calls Brooklyn, NY, home. When she’s not working, you can find her running around “the city.” She loves basking in the sunshine at Prospect Park, taking hot yoga classes at her favorite local studio, and going out for long dinners with friends.
