Her academic and industry knowledge – from technology to food to retail – make her a invaluable asset to Smarty Pants and its clients.

Jordan has been with the organization since late 2020. She brought with her a inquisitive spirit, impressive academic pedigree and fascinating professional background. As a lover of mystery novels from a young age, she has always been interested in finding clues to solve problems. Fast forward to her first college course in communication research and she knew that digging in to find the answers to challenging business problems was her calling. That led to an academic journey to learn market research methods and how best to apply them.

As a graduate assistant, Jordan honed her content creation and storytelling skills as a writer for an interdisciplinary magazine. She went on to become an adjunct professor of Public Speaking and Introduction to Communication at Northeast State Community College – a role she pursued as she began working on her doctorate. Her work ethic and academic prowess earned her the position as the first remote doctoral fellow in her department to teach master’s level courses.

Before her transition to market research, Jordan spend two years remotely teaching English as a Second Language to Chinese students for edtech platform, QKids. Her lens is both hyper-local and global, both academic and business.

After earning her undergraduate degree in communications at the University of Virginia’s College at Wise, Jordan earned a Master of Arts in professional communication from East Tennessee State University. At ETSU, she was a graduate fellow for the theatre department and a writer for the school of graduate studies magazine.

In 2020, Jordan became Dr. Powers, earning her Ph.D. in communication from Regent University. In true Smarty Pants fashion, she received academic scholarships at all three institutions in recognition of her hard work and dedication.

As a scholar, Jordan conducted quantitative and qualitative research on topics ranging from celebrity influence on product worth, to the role gender and race play in fandom, to the latent political messages in memes. She has had the honor of presenting her research at the Southern States Communication Association and the National Communication Association.

Raised in the beautiful mountains of Southwest Virginia, Jordan now resides outside of Charlotte in Salisbury, NC. In her spare time, you can find her snuggling with her cats, browsing a home improvement store or watching a reality competition show.
