Chief Brainiac

New York, NY

Stephanie is the Chief Brainiac of Smarty Pants, a title that reflects her nearly 30 years of research and strategy experience and gift for guiding global brands. She’s an industry heavy-hitter who has worked with many of the world’s pre-eminent entertainment developers, retailers and consumer goods manufacturers—turning human insight into effective, integrated marketing strategies.

Over the past 19 years at Smarty Pants, Steph has flexed her youth and family research talents for clients as varied as NBCUniversal, Sesame Workshop, Google and Ferrero. While she’s a qual practitioner at heart, Stephanie is one of the company’s most versatile researchers; she designs multi-method approaches that brilliantly connect with the consumer and quickly adapts techniques to meet consumers’ and clients’ needs. She has personally conducted research on four continents in over a dozen countries, deftly blending regional consumer insight and global branding needs.

Stephanie’s business savvy led her to a position as a Business Unit Leader in 2017. She now guides a new “generation” of BU Leaders as the company’s Chief Brainiac. As a C-suite executive, she helps steer Smarty Pants and its clients’ success. She also plays a key role in the evolution of our operations, culture and strategic vision. And she does it all with an on-brand playful spirit, sarcastic wit, and hilarious stories.

Her experience, intelligence and unforgettable presence have been requested at countless industry conferences, where Stephanie is often called upon to lead consumer panels and help attendees put a face to the consumer. As well, she often presents to key client partners on topics ranging from perspectives on lifestages, to the meaning of fandom in the modern world of entertainment, to best practices in creating brand experiences that build upon one another and engage consumers in meaningful ways.

Before joining Smarty Pants, Stephanie served as one of 28 Managing Partners at Grey Advertising, overseeing research for all of the Agency’s P&G beauty brands.

She began her career as a strategic planner at Bozell New York while completing her master’s degree.

Stephanie holds a bachelor’s degree from Lehigh University. She earned a master’s degree at New York University.
