Terrance Kennedy

Chief Business Genius

Johnson City, TN

Terrance made the leap to Smarty Pants in 2006 and has served as the company’s Chief Financial Officer since 2009. His role includes leadership on all financial matters – from A/R and A/P, to payroll and taxes across 28 states, to financial planning for Smarty Pants quest for world domination. (Okay, well, maybe domination of our part of the research and insights world.) He’s a people and numbers guru who spends his days quietly reconciling accounts, running projections, chatting with client procurement professionals and other mysterious things we don’t entirely understand.

Terrance also serves the critical role of providing guidance to and managing the relationships with Smarty Pants’ attorneys. From contract negotiation, to data compliance, to privacy issues, Terrance somehow manages it all.

As if he weren’t busy enough, Terrance also oversees the compensation and benefits side of HR. Along with the Head of Happiness, he ensures Smarty Pants remains an employer of choice for the best and brightest researchers in the business.

Terrance comes from a sales and business background. He has owned several businesses, including a multi-store QSR franchise.

Terrance brings a wealth of business acumen to the organization. He’s also a stickler for customer and client service, which you’ll hear in his friendly voice if he answers the phone at Smarty Pants headquarters.

Terrance attended East Tennessee State University, where he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. He (sarcastically) remembers getting his financial career start as the fraternity’s treasurer responsible for collecting membership dues from his “brothers.”

Terrance and his wife of 36 years live in Johnson City, TN. They have three adult sons, three awesome daughters-in-law and four of the sweetest grandchildren. Besides spending time with his grandkids, he loves leading volunteers at his church and trying to break 80 on the golf course.
