With a playful company mascot, a new website and a 1-800 number among our assets, we were headed for the big leagues. (Boy, have times changed!)

Hasbro toys & games became Smarty Pants’ biggest client, kicking off a close 19-year partnership. Disney/ABC Cable, Campbell’s, Unilever, Nestle, American Greetings, BBC Worldwide, and a handful of others joined the client portfolio.

Barbara Zamolsky and Stephanie Retblatt came on as full-time qual researchers, and Ricardo Maldonado began providing freelance support on quantitative projects. The company founders hired Terrance Kennedy as the firm’s first CFO.

Late in the year, Smarty Pants moved its legal headquarters from Norwalk, Connecticut, to Johnson City, TN.  Though most of our team remained in the NYC metro area, having a small presence in the South allowed us to keep a better pulse on America beyond the Northeast.
